Donut Drawings, Nicole Kirkpatrick

We were given a donut and were asked to sketch the donut in different ways. My donut was in one piece when I left the studio, but when I got back, it was in crumbles. My last five were mainly crumbled donut drawings.

Everything Book

The donut on fire has to be my favorite. The "ordeal" at my hotel definitely inspired me and influenced my idea to draw the donut on fire. I definitely "went with it" and made the most of my situation. I like the texture of the fire and the water that the donut is sitting in.

The collages were also one of my favorite things. I like taking the traced shapes and simplifying them. I especially like the black and white version of this one.

25 Donut Drawings

For this exercise we did some careful yet quick studies of a donut and explored our associations/ memories. To complete the exercise we had create 25 sketches of the donut; each one informing and inspiring the next drawing. At first the task seemed overwhelming but after a short while I got into it and enjoyed the process.
